Hey, I’m Renee Gurley — feminist memoirist, literary true crime junkie, travel addict, and unapologetic storyteller living out near Joshua Tree, California. My current obsession? Wrangling Saga de la Gringa into its final form — a raw, in-your-face true crime memoir about survival, justice, and transformation after an assault in Bolivia. No sugar-coating, no looking away.
When I’m not elbows-deep in revisions, you’ll probably find me chasing solo travel adventures from Morocco to Mexico, hunting down the best street tacos, or scribbling notes on a bumpy bus somewhere between. I tell the kind of women’s travel stories that embrace the joy of the journey but don’t shy away from the messy, complicated stuff — because let’s be real, the world is beautiful and it can bite.
Through my writing and workshops, I help other women and aspiring authors find their voice, own their stories, and create narratives that actually stick. Around here, we don’t just “share experiences” — we claim them, twist them into something unforgettable, and send them back into the world with teeth.

My Signature Work: Saga de la Gringa
A literary true crime memoir in revision, Saga de la Gringa tells the story of my assault in Bolivia, the landmark trial that followed, and my journey through survival, justice, and transformation. It blends true crime with women’s travel writing, capturing both the beauty and danger of solo female travel.
